S.O.L. Again?

As the presidential primary season grinds on, one thing is becoming clear. While the cannabis community may number in the millions no “white/black/red/yellow or green knight” is riding to the front lines to speak the truth about cannabis. President Obama won’t even chat with us on-line; Mitt Romney is no fan of weed; and I’m quite sure that Newt would hang-us-all-by-the-neck-until-dead if he thought that would put him in the White House. He might do it even without that assurance. Yikes!

And, yes, Ron Paul gets it, but I’m reasonably certain that he’s not going to be his party’s nominee. All this is no reason for us to slink back into our culture of accommodation. We are pushing a string up a hill – difficult, yes, but not impossible. The string is the truth about cannabis. The hill is 70+ years of lies about the same subject. We are working to overcome the lies and the fear. We are the one who have to do this job.

Maybe it’s just our turn to take our political lumps. Through history lots of folks have struggled to have their God-given rights respected. Time has come for us to stand up and demand what should be ours – some privacy. We realize that the drug laws are built from a web of lies and fear. In this world lies and fear are powerful. We know the truth is even more so. We know this because every time people learn why cannabis is illegal, they change their minds about keeping it illegal. And no one is ever surprised to learn we have been victims, yet again, of government lies.

Someday a mainstream political figure is going to ask for our support. That will happen when all who know and love cannabis join with the multitudes who have taken a toke in the past -- don’t now -- but know that, used responsibly, cannabis is a friend. We are a large, diverse population. Someday some mainstream political figure is going to realize just how many votes we represent. You do vote, don’t you?

Our cause is fractured into cliques that don’t communicate with each other as well as we could. That hamstrings our political power. Someday -- today would be good -- we must stand together, side by side, out in the open, and say, “Responsible use is no crime.”

As I write this Marc Emery is approaching the mid-point of his five year sentence for selling cannabis seeds. Admittedly he did move a lot of seeds, but that’s what he’s doing time for. Seeds! Marc put his freedom on the line to help free the weed.

How about you? Put anything at risk in an effort to help anything other than yourself? Or, do you, as so many of us do, exist quietly in the culture of accommodation where cannabis is available but not respectable, expensive and not a market-priced product, and while itself a friend and ally, is treated by the powers that be as a foe.

have, on their websites, a place to sign up to send messages to appropriate elected officials as opportunity presents itself.

You don’t have to write the letter. You don’t have to even know who your elected officials are. You will need to know where you live. Sorry. And, importantly, you have to be willing to take a moment out of your hectic day and help re-legalize the weed. Lend your name and your presence to efforts already underway. We have to get the drug war front-and-center into the upcoming election debate. Right now it’s barely a blip on the radar.

For an example of how important your simple email might be, attend: There is a bill in the federal congress to create a commission to review the federal American criminal justice system, top to bottom, and make recommendations for change. That’s a doorway to re-legalization. Several states are ready to re-legalize. The impediment is the federal government. This Commission, if created, could be a big step towards change. Every elected official should vote “yes” on the creation of this Commission. They might do that if you tell them.

Start sending letters and emails in support of ending the drug war. You can do so on the websites of any drug reform group. Do it on ALL the websites of ALL the drug reform groups. Who knows where we might end up? Maybe bringing Mr. Emery home a day or so sooner than expected.

Anyway, this kid has really got something going on with over 80,000 views on youtube for his latest video for his song "Get Lifted". He's like the Beiber of stoner rap. Actually I don't think he;d like that comparison. Let's just say his style is fresh, and his followers are growing.

Teen Habits: Less Alcohol and Cigarettes, More Pot

The U.S. Federal government is reporting that American teens are using more pot, and less alcohol and cigarettes. Now, it wouldn't be good to encourage pot use among kids, but it's better than alcohol and cigarettes. It's less harmful and quite frankly it shows some good sense. Good for you generation whatever. Seriously though stay away from Spice and K2, it's toxic and gross. - BakedLife

Cigarette and alcohol use among teens is at the lowest level in decades, but marijuana use is on the rise, according to a survey released on Wednesday.

Although alcohol remains popular among teens, rates of underage and binge drinking showed significant declines, researchers said.

Overall, cigarette and alcohol usages by teens are at the lowest points since the first survey was taken in 1975.

Marijuana use among teens rose in 2011 for the fourth straight year -- a sharp contrast to a dramatic decline that occurred in the preceding decade.

Daily marijuana use is at a 30-year peak level among high school seniors, the survey found.

Nearly 47,000 students from 400 public and private schools were polled in classrooms earlier this year.

Among 12th graders, 36.4 percent said they smoked marijuana in the past year and 6.6 percent reported daily use, it found.

The 2011 survey for the first time included questions about use of synthetic marijuana, a blend of herbs and spices laced with chemicals and commonly branded Spice or K2.

More than 11 percent of high school seniors reported using the synthetic substance in the past year, it found.

Until recently, K2 and Spice were sold legally online, in gas stations and other shops. Earlier this year federal regulators banned some of the synthetic chemicals.

Subtlety really is key in the world of herb. The lifestyle is social, but you don't really go around telling everyone. Cadence watch had that in mind when they made their new 420 watch. No one will know this is a 420 watch until you tell them.

The subtlety is the best feature. It's nice to be able to wear a watch that shows off your lifestyle without drawing any unwanted attention. The only thing that's not 100% awesome on the watch is the strap. It'd be nice if they used something that looked a little less like an old man's belt. But if it's in the of style, it might be okay. Because this watch is just cool not to want.

There is an online store out there that is making wallets covered in huge graphics and I love their new product. "The Totally Dope Wallet" is exactly that, totally dope. The wallet's front and back are covered with a realistic image of a marijuana baggie.

The wallet sells from their online store at Store.TheWalArt.com for $15 dollars. It's a %100 percent recyclable material that's made with %100 percent Vegan friendly materials (no leather).

At first glance the image looks completely real. There are no doubt droves of people who have been fooled into believing that the dime bag on the wallet was the real thing. If the pot stash is empty occasional glances at this wallet is enough to make it seem like a stray baggie of glorious herb as just been discovered. Of course in reality you'll still be out of weed, and probably broke too if that's the case.

KultureVA.com has just released a new line of pipes modeled after a character from the famous smart phone game Angry Birds. America is hooked on Angry Birds. The highly addictive game is probably the only thing beating weed as a cause of workplace inefficiency.

As the election season approaches it is a good time to remind President Obama and all of our leaders that we want weed to be legal. What better way to get the ball rolling than through everyone's favorite social communicator, Twitter.

The playing field is ready, and the competitors plan to hold nothing back. Every year the American presidential elections increase in complexity and intensity. In our new democracy just going out and voting isn't enough to have a voice.

We have to know what we want and be prepared to fight for it, or at least sound like we are. Twitter has proved itself as a tool capable of channeling the awesome force of social/political movements. It's like a global suggestion box, and taking the time to put your two cents can change everything.

Barack Obama has been shying away from the marijuana debate. It may be that it's too controversial a problem to risk trying to fix. It doesn't help that the American congress is having trouble functioning as a productive group.

Still, as citizens it isn't too much to ask that our voice be heard. America wants weed legalized, and it would be good for America for weed to be legal. So go ahead tweet @BarackObama, or even @MittRomney if that's more your style. Tell them weed should be legal.

It's author, sexy cannabis columnist MamaKind, knows as much about pot as she does about sex. She's smoked it all, and tried it all in and out of the sack. From things you've only seen in the dirtiest adult flicks to stuff you're too nervous to ask your lover to try out.

I couldn't exaggerate about the content of this book if I wanted to. There are crazier scenarios in there then I could have imagined myself. For instance have you ever masturbated in a passport office, or on top of an elephant!

Not every stoner likes to get high and get freaky, but at least now you'll know what you're missing. Sex, more than anything in life is about honesty. Shit maybe I should write a book.

The Tea Party Report is a new online comedy outlet for actress and mock-journalist Susie Sampson. The character Susie is a young journalist, who has decided to tackle the top issues in American living and politics with a brain full Tea Party wisdom.

It's kind of like if Bristol Palin, hadn't had a kid, went to the University of Alaska, and then tried to follow in her mothers footsteps.

What's surprising is that Susie isn't the dumb one most of the time. She responds to everything with wide eyed disbelief and urges her interview-ees to make fools of themselves by giving them the space to say something stupid. In the end maybe Tea Partiers aren't any more ridiculous than the rest of us. But I'm not sure that's a reassuring fact.

The presidential election now underway presents us with another chance to change the drug
laws. Medical marijuana demonstrates that the various states will make various decisions, if
left to themselves. When the day of re-legalization comes – and it is coming -- some states
will welcome cannabis, others will not. It is clear, however, that the major impediment to re-
legalization is the federal government. Sadly, the truth about cannabis is being sidetracked by
the age-old question, who makes the decisions, and who is obliged to follow the rules?

We must make the war on drugs part – a big part -- of the emerging presidential debate. It is
time for every one of us to COME OUT FOR CANNABIS. We must make each and every
candidate – especially those seeking national office – state clearly and concisely where they
stand on the war on drugs. No candidate can be allowed to hide. No candidate gets a pass. We
only have fourteen months till election date 2012. We need to get attention focused on our issue.

In the days ahead the people seeking office are going to be in your neighborhood knocking on
doors, appearing at your local shopping mall, speaking at your PTA meeting, and, while pressing
the flesh, kissing babies and ANSWERING QUESTIONS. These early rallies are thinly
attended. You can get some face time. Go to these gatherings, meet these potential lawmakers,
and ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT DRUG POLICY, IN PUBLIC, BEFORE WHATEVER

AUDIENCE IS AVAILABLE.

If interviewing people is not something you usually do, it’s okay to practice asking questions
in the privacy of your own room. You can pretend you got an unenlightened response from
an unenlightened politician and then practice asking some appropriate follow-up questions.
Follow-ups are used to hold the audiences’ attention on your issue. Breathe deeply. You may be
nervous the first time you step out and do this. Maybe try a little role playing with some friends?

Don’t go to these rallies unprepared. Make sure you can explain, in a few words and in a calm
tone of voice, how cannabis became an outlaw. This story has been featured in Baked Life for
the past few months, so check there if you need some schooling. Know the truth about hemp and
speak that truth at every opportunity.

You might be more comfortable with a prepared pitch of your own. Use NORML’s:
No cannabis induced deaths; a safer alternative to alcohol +
A regulated cannabis market is a source of significant tax revenue +
A regulated market will make it harder for youth to find cannabis =
It’s time to tax and regulate marijuana.

We know why and how cannabis became illegal. We know the truth. It’s time to leave our
comfortable culture of accommodation – where cannabis is functionally legal if you pay
attention to what you are doing – and make it legal for real.

It's like Kat Williams said, weed has a special chemical in it called "I don't give a fuck". If you haven't been arrested for pot, that's probably how you feel about the controversy. It's easy enough to stroll down the street at night and burn some ganja. So why give a shit?

Kevin Smith went on Jay Leno recently and he couldn't or didn't want to stop himself from declaring his undying love for pot's influence in his life. It was shocking. Jay Leno took it in stride, and made a joke about hearing about pot from his musician friends. Late Night shows and an assortment of comedy sitcom's have been playing around with the pot taboo for years.

So where the fuck are we as a country. We laugh about pot, we arrest people for pot, and a lot of us smoke pot. It's time to either throw your hands up and say "shit" or get off "pot". As an individual stoner it's not a good idea to live in limbo, or to take part in action you feel guilty for.

If you're going to light up a joint these days then fuck the consequences. The laws are so unevenly paved they're about as predictable as weather shifts. Can't live life afraid of the rain. And honestly, it's more like being afraid of a tornado touching down in Riverside, CA.

If your parents, siblings, etc. are constantly giving you shit for smoking pot. Don't get negative. If you can't say fuck it and shrug it off, then you shouldn't be smoking. DO NOT show up to your session that night saying you are so happy to be smoking pot even though it just got you kicked out of your place or fired. That's so dumb it's almost legendary.

Pop culture loves pot not because movies are like real life, but because they are our real lives. The media is doing it's part to kill the dumb stoner stereotypes. Still... stoners aren't martyrs so they shouldn't feel like MLK for being arrested or mocked.This is the most indecisive era ever, getting arresting comes with the territory. Pot isn't a right or a privilege it's a way to have fun, keep that in mind. Securing fun isn't the same as fighting for freedom.

Living a Baked Life isn't just about pot. It's mostly about pot, but at it's core it's about being thankful for all the great things in life. Love life, live life, then smoke pot.

Throughout the 1930’s patriotic German farmers grew hemp at the behest of their Nazi government. This was done to serve the needs of the Fatherland’s growing war machine. None of this hemp was for export. In 1937 the US federal government outlawed the hemp plant in America, making our nation dependant on foreign sources to supply our nation’s need for natural coarse fibers. By early 1942 Japan’s military and political expansion in the Pacific had cut the USA off from all supplies of hemp and other valuable natural coarse fibers. Americas’ military, especially the Navy, sans hemp, now had a problem. Hemp, while illegal, was critical to the war effort.

But, fear not, for the same legislative magic that had outlawed the hemp plant in 1937, calling it the assassin of youth, now brought the plant back to polite society. Somehow, someway, and because it was necessary for the war effort, the assassin morphed into something safe enough for the American government to ask children in Kentucky 4-H programs to grow a seed supply for the nation. That seed was planted the next year in the Hemp for Victory campaign.

In 1942 – 43 American farmers were required to attend a showing of a short film titled Hemp for Victory and then read a booklet on hemp cultivation. Farmers were obligated to attest that they had, indeed, viewed the film. You can watch this film on YouTube, and, as it is short, interesting, and part of our history, I hope you will do so.

The goal for 1943 was 350,000 acres of America in hemp cultivation. Farmers and their sons -- who grew hemp -- were exempt from the military draft during WWII. This is significant as, especially in the early days of the war, 1942/3, there were very few exemptions from military service. That’s how important a supply of hemp was at that time.

When the Second World War was won our soldiers returned to praise, parades and respect. There was no reward for the hemp plant, just a return to outlaw status. How ungrateful.

In 1942 Hemp meant self-sufficiency in rope and cordage, critical items to a nation at war. Today hemp could offer a step towards self-sufficiency in cleaner energy supplies, new medicines, and a less toxic relaxant that alcohol. We should accept that help. The gifts of mankind’s ancient friend, the hemp plant, could still be ours. Why don’t we accept?

Are Democrats Going to Legalize All Drugs in This Political Climate?

At a time when our senate can barely pass laws essential to the functioning of our country, it seems laughable that we'd ever get a legalization law passed. But that's exactly what some of the Democrats on capitol hill are thinking they can accomplish. Bull crap or Crap shoot, it's not looking good.

Liberal Democrats will vote to legalise cannabis and decriminalise all other personal drug use under plans put forward for approval at their party conference.

Nick Clegg’s (pictured lower right) party bosses have given the green light for a debate on the controversial proposal which would mean a ‘regulated market’ in marijuana overseen by the Government. The Deputy Prime Minister’s aides expect party members to adopt the plan, making it official Lib Dem policy and creating tensions with Mr Clegg’s Tory partners in the Coalition.

MPs and drugs campaigners yesterday denounced the idea as likely to drag young people into a life of drug abuse.

The motion calls for an independent panel to examine how to set up ‘a strictly controlled and regulated cannabis market’ – effectively legalising the Class B drug. It says: ‘Possession of any controlled drug for personal use would not be a criminal offence.’

Instead of a punishment, police would send offenders to a panel ‘tasked with determining appropriate education, health or social interventions’.

The Lib Dem proposal claims that decriminalising the possession of drugs for personal use in Portugal has not led to a rise in abuse. And it says ‘heroin maintenance clinics in Switzerland and the Netherlands have delivered great health benefits for addicts’.

The proposals will be opposed by the Tories as well as the Labour Party, which got into a huge mess over the classification of cannabis. When the Blair government reduced it to a Class C drug, overwhelming evidence from scientists about its psychotic properties swiftly caused a U-turn.
The plans were proposed by the Liberal Democrat constituency party in Glasgow South, the party’s young person’s wing Liberal Youth and 23 individual conference delegates.

Senior party officials revealed yesterday that it has now been approved by the Lib Dem Federal Conference Committee for debate in Birmingham in September.Sources close to Nick Clegg said he expects the plans to be approved, meaning he will be shackled with the policy. It is unlikely to become law since changes in drugs legislation do not form part of the Coalition agreement.

After a flirtation with drug liberalisation when he first became an MP, David Cameron has said he is opposed to the legalisation of drugs.

Mr Clegg is said to be ‘relaxed’ about the plans. ‘He will watch the debate with interest,’ said a source. ‘It is perfectly sensible for a panel to look at these issues properly.’ David Raynes, of the National Drug Prevention Alliance, said: ‘Our prisons are full of mentally ill people damaged by drugs, and cannabis is where they start.

Claims about Portugal are based on one study which is disputed by international bodies. Portuguese politicians decriminalised personal use and now they don’t know how to get out of it.’
Conservative MP Charles Walker added: ‘My Tory colleagues will see sense and make sure this really stupid idea never happens. It is obvious that drugs do a great deal of harm.
‘Drugs should be illegal because it sends the right message: that drugs are damaging.’

I’m sitting in a pot café in Vancouver - a.k.a. Vansterdam - with a small group of mostly male friends. We’ve been here since roughly 4:17 pm sipping cappuccinos, nibbling on nachos and shooting the shit, all the while ingesting massive quantities of marijuana in all manner of incarnation. Joints of Island Sweet Skunk, bowls of Hempstar hash, dollops of amber honey oil and vaporized smears of chartreuse Budder. Wiz Khalifa says the movie is about having fun, getting high and enlightening their audience by "laying some game" on them.

I don't think I need to say how awesome this movie is going to be, but I will. Wiz Khalifa is the new king of stoner entertainers, and Snoop Dogg is the one passing him the crown. The two together is the stuff of cannabis entertainment legend. Ever since Kid Cudi gave up pot, there's been a whole in my heart, this movie and soundtrack just about fills it up.

A Brief History of HEMP in AMERICA by David Brannon Cont.

1937 is perhaps the worst year of the great depression. The events surrounding
the criminalization of hemp occur at this particularly harsh time in American History.

Happening more-or-less simultaneously:

The DuPont company is promoting chemical/oil based synthetic fibers, the
patents for which were obtained as war reparations from Germany after WWI;
helping DuPont is his lifelong friend, Andrew J. Mellon, who happens to be the
Secretary of the Treasury [both men are remembered by history as Robber
Barons]

In Southern California the white political establishment is trying to gain control
of a “lawless” [no it wasn’t] community, the Mexicans.

One way to control a people is to make something specific to those people a
crime. The only unique thing about the Mexicans in southern California in the 1920’s
is that they smoke hemp, which they call by the slang term marihuana. Very few
Americans have ever heard of marihuana. Mexican’s use it, black jazz musicians use
it [Chicago and New Orleans], and that’s pretty much it. Inconveniently there is no
evidence that smoking hemp/marihuana is dangerous.

But IF marihuana were a menace, and IF hemp were revealed to be marihuana,
then marihuana/hemp could be made illegal which would (1) create a control
mechanism sending the police into the Mexican community, while also (2) removing
a natural source competitor to DuPont’s new oil-based products [which, at the time,
were advertised as environmentally friendly]. Everybody wins? But how do you make
the hemp plant, mankind’s ancient friend and provider, into a monster? Easy, you lie.

Two people now become important to our story: Harry J. Anslinger, the newly
crowned head of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics [and, incidentally, the nephew-
in-law of the previously mentioned Sec. of the Treasury, Mellon]; and newspaper
magnate William Randolph Hearst. Hearst lives in southern California and hates
Mexicans. Anslinger is a whore for publicity just like J. Edgar Hoover, with whom
Anslinger feels he is in direct competition – for funding and praise.

In America first we demonize, then we criminalize. Hearst starts running
questionable [i.e. fabricated] stories about the dangers of marihuana. Hearst’s

purpose in running these stories is to sell newspapers, which is what Mr. Hearst is
all about. This nationwide fabricated-fear-campaign is cited by Anslinger as hard
evidence of a problem. Something must be done about marihuana! Hearst then
runs legitimate stories about Anslinger’s campaign, citing Anslinger’s use of Hearsts’ fabricated stories as proof that Hesrst’s stories are true.

Hollywood, always ready to make a buck, begins producing movies about the dangers of marihuana. Assassin of Youth is a personal favorite and available on DVD if you are curious. There was some great weed, back in the day, if these films can be trusted. The first time most Americans ever hear about marihuana is in this dishonest campaign.

A tax mechanism, modeled on the machine gun tax law, is crafted to remove the
offending plant from society. To possess either a (1) machine gun or (2) marijuana
you must first obtain a tax stamp for the (1) machine gun or (2) marijuana. No tax
stamps are made available for either (1) machine guns or (2) marijuana and machine
guns and our plant are taxed out of existence. Governmental bureaucracy (1)
enforces the tax law and thus (2) keeps both machine guns and marihuana suppressed.
Hemp is now an outlaw.

This is the root of our challenge in re- legalizing the plant. Fear, built on a
foundation of lies, then reinforced by the action of the law for seventy-plus years is proving a tough foe. But when you tell this story no one is ever surprised to learn the government told yet another lie. We should not be afraid of what challenges lie
ahead. We are the ones telling the truth.

Excuse my french, but I... never mind. I'd never offend. Unlike like the devil's nectar, the Angel's flora is much less aggressive. Apologies for pushing views, we all think differently. This fact is what makes us human, adorable, characteristic to those unknown. Now I sound like a coot, though I'd much rather promote the use of cannabis.

We all remember our first time, more so mentally than physically for me. Some may smile at the moment they rolled first joint. I chuckle a bit at the growth my friends have made. Some were disgusted due to a lack of knowledge, now attending marches in the love of it.

So join me, will you? In this hopeful stand for a better world. This present will become the past, democracy and free mind will evolve anew,

Smoked: A New Stoner Comedy Web Series

As amateur video production becomes easier and cheaper, stoner webseries' are becoming a trend on the internet. For a while now Baked Life has been featuring the popular web show Stoner Chicks TV. Now there is a new kid on the block, and instead of being set in a smoke shop it's in a weed shop.

Smoked is a new Webseries set in a Californian dispensary that's located on famous Venice Beach. The cast is made up of some pretty wacky individuals who are doing their best to run a legit dispensary. Something they don't always succeed at.

You can watch more of their show on their youtube channel. This video is their first episode, in which the crew runs into a little trouble for selling pot to some Disney Channel child stars. I know right... Hilarious. Check them out!

Rezzy Wipes are a new innovation from the stoner hygiene market. The wipes are saturated in coconut oil and they are meant for keeping your hands clean after you handle anything covered in resin.

Hemp was integral to early history of the nation, and the plant itself was exchanged as a form of money throughout most of the Americas from 1631 to the early 1800’s. Hemp and flax were both important and most farms had at least a field devoted to one of these crops.

By 1721 British colonists were receiving farm subsidies for producing hemp. England and Holland looked to their colonies to furnish enough hemp to supply their two enormous navies. At times colonial governments made the production of hemp compulsory.

In 1733 South Carolina hired a writer to create a book about hemp then travel the state promoting both hemp and flax. Georgia provided free seed and instruction to farmers in 1767. By the late colonial period North Carolina provided warehousing and inspection services for exports of hemp and flax.

Hemps major competitor in the south was tobacco. When tobacco prices were high, farmers preferred to grow tobacco. Whenever tobacco prices fell those farmers returned to producing hemp. Both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew hemp, with Jefferson writing about the crop and inventing machines and new systems to processes the plant. In 1810 John Quincy Adams travelled to Russia to study hemp manufacturing techniques there.

As the nation moved west so did hemp. Conestoga wagons were covered with canvas hemp and its new lightweight version called canvas duck. But the Civil War [1861-1865], while initially sparking demand for hemp, ultimately devastated the southern agricultural economy. National policy was in the hands of the industrial North and their fiber preference was for cheaper cotton. After the conflict, when southern farmers could not even produce sufficient hemp for the bagging needs of the cotton market, jute stepped in to fill that shortfall. Another cheaper alternative to hemp had entered the market.

Hemp had one huge disadvantage -- cost. Breaking hemp [preparing it for market] accounted for nearly two-thirds of the expense of the crop from seed to market. Most breaking was done in the winter when farmers could not work their fields. Hemp provided year-round jobs but increased costs. Cotton had its cost-reducing-gin; hemp did not.

But new uses for hemp, especially the pulp of the plant, called hurds, were on the horizon. Industries as diverse as paper, plastics, and explosives could use the cellulose-rich hurds. USDA Bulletin 404, published in 1916, stated that “without a doubt, hemp will continue to be one of the staple agricultural crops of the United States.

In the 1930’s the Ford Motor Company was planning to build and fuel a fleet of cars using hemp and other plant matter. Popular Mechanics magazine wrote, “[h]emp will not compete with other American products. Instead it will displace imports of raw material and manufactured products produced by underpaid coolie and peasant labor and it will provide thousands of jobs for American workers throughout the land.”

Then came 1937. And everything changed.

Drinking Wine and Smoking Weed, Promotes Brain Health?

This isn't an article about mixing the effects of drinking wine and smoking weed. Which can be an experience anywhere between nausea and euphoria, but that really is a discussion for another time.

Doctors are announcing with some restraint that moderate use of marijuana and red wine combined fight Alzheimer's Disease and promote brain health.

Cannabis has recently garnered a lot of attention from scientists because of the recognition of endocannabinoids. This new neuro-transmitter affects our brain in a unique way that seems built perfectly for us.

Endocannabinoids regulate and lower wear and tear in our cognitive system. The results are showing us that the reduction in short term memory is actually due to a reduction in sometimes harmful inflammation in the brain.

Polyphenol antioxidants, a chemical substance naturally found in red wine, prohibits toxic plaque build up in the brain that destroys cells. These substances, also called tannins in red wine, are good for the reduction of cognitive deterioration.

In other words wine also acts to lower the wear and tear in our brains. It's antioxidants allow for increased flow of toxins out of the brain.

Working together these effects actually give our brain an overall boost. Just like reading this article. And again we're not advocating use of both simultaneously. This information does however point to the benefits of using both moderately.

Colorado Blocks Bill That Would Give Stoned Drivers a DUI's

One of the major concern surrounding pot legalization and decriminalization has been the issue of impaired drivers. Colorado's Senate had to decide last night if they wanted to pass a bill that would make it illegal to drive with more than 5 nanograms of THC per liter of blood in your system. They rejected the bill, for now.

The issue here was that they didn't have enough research. This law is starting a fire in a hot area of dispute inside and outside the marijuana community. Stoners have long had their own ideas about driving while high. Some will tell you they never do it because it feels too dangerous, and others say that they drive better stoned. Drive better stoned? That's a sentiment that many are likely to dispute.

It brings up an important issue though. Is all intoxication impairment, and do drivers under the influence of marijuana cause accidents. The fact is that we don't really know, and that's why the bill failed. The senate decided they need more research before they move forward with a law like this.

This is by no means a simple law to enact. Marijuana unlike alcohol affects users in far more unpredictable ways. Depending on exposure two people might have completely different reactions to the same dose.

I mean really Michael Jordan, the Wizards, you should be on this list too. Put your money together and get a vaporizer.

6 Rosie Huntington-Whiteley: In a short time she's taken over Megan Fox's role in the new transormers and she's #1 on Maxim Magazines 2011 Hot List. Smoking some weed might keep her humble at a time when she has no reason to be. I don't think Transformers geeks could take it if we lost another hottie to her own pride. 5 Glenn Beck: We already know he loves weed. Or at least he thinks it should be legalized. Or at least that's what it sounded like he said on his controversial Fox news broadcast. Whatever, it's hard to tell what any of these Fox guys really think. But Beck might have a chance. Besides his illogical hatred of everything democratic, he really is a down home guy who likes to use common sense. All he needs is a toke to straighten him out a little.

The last thing we need is for when he become's king, to start looking to re-ignite old battles with France as a way of thrill seeking. At least if he's stoned his job of smiling as a relatively useless figurehead will be that mush easier

This "OSM Sponsored" Baked Life spotlight is on a young band out of Los Angeles called Them Poets.

Them Poets is a part of OSM Music. This summer they're getting ready to release their first and largely acoustic, EP, "Root Sessions". This is the new version of their song Come Temporary. This video was recorded as part of a series of jam sessions with Jordan Judge (bass) a member of another local Los Angeles County band Sushine Factory.

Brain Page supplies the rap vocals that round out a sound that can be best described as indie soul. Busola Laditan (vocals, drums, keyboard) and Nicholas Davis (guitar) work together, drawing from jazz, blues, and indie inspirations to create a sound that is uniquely Californian.

The photo to the left is from OSM Photography member and the band's close friend Monica Goldman. The picture was taken at Butlers Cafe in Lancaster, CA. An intimate venue that young bands like Them Poets, Sunshine Factory, and more have found is a sort of incubator for their sound, style, and connection to a local group of awesome music lovers. Was Osama Bin Laden Growing Marijuana To Help With Kidney Problems?

Just outside Osama Bin Laden's secret hideout investigators found a garden which included various produce as well as marijuana plants. Now, some believe that Bin Laden was smoking weed as a way of helping with his kidney problems.

In Pakistan marijuana grows wildly in many locations, so it's not surprising the marijuana plants went unnoticed in plain view.

The grocer that Bin Laden's lackeys purchased food from was reportedly confused about how much food they bought. Munchies? “I was curious about why they bought so much food, but I did not want to be rude by asking,” he said. Here's an excerpt from the Daily Mail, reporting on the CNN's discovery of the marijuana outside the Bin Laden Compound.

"High-strength marijuana plants have been found just yards from the luxury home of slain terror chief Osama Bin Laden. Hundreds of the exotic green flower have flourished for a number of years on the border of the war lord's secret compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

Despite being a short walk from a military training academy dubbed 'Pakistan's Sandhurst', the illegal crop had remained undiscovered. But hundreds of officials have descended on the busy town this week after Bin Laden was blasted in the brain by U.S. Navy Seals.

An American reporter noticed the pungent line of plants growing in the dry fields surrounding the five-metre high concrete walls. CNN's Nic Robertson showed to the camera the marijuana hidden alongside other crops including cabbages and potatoes.

The discovery raised the possibility that Bin Laden may have been a regular smoker of the 'weed' strain of the plant. Bin Laden had in recent years suffered from kidney problems which may have been eased by taking marijuana for its medicinal properties."

You might remember that back in 2009 BakedLife.com had a subsection to the site called "Vegan Stoner". This is not that. That eventually became our "Healthy Stoner" section. This is a well illustrated, one-stop guide to cooking simple vegan recipes. All the recipes are easy on your wallet and highly creative.

Hemp Mote: A Geeky DIY Wii-Mote Hack

This Wii-Mote hack is made from an actual controller for Nintendo's Wii Console. It's made with 3 types of %100 hemp string. Apparently this wouldn't really hold up to rigorous play. Still, it's sort of a stoner gamer nerd's fantasy. Even if it's only a show piece.

The blog also tells you how you can go about making your own hemp enhanced Wii-Mote. The device won't hold up to real world experience very long though. Especially if you really get into some Wii Sports and start sweating into the hemp fibers. Gross.

Biodiesel is the name for a variety of oxygenated fuels made from vegetable oils or animal fats. Biodiesel is the only alternative fuel that runs in any conventional, unmodified diesel engine. Biodiesel can be used alone or mixed in any ratio with petroleum diesel fuel.

Biodiesel can be made from renewable crops. Corn, a human food, is currently being used to make biodiesel. Using food crops to produce fuel is a bad idea. Corn, a staple in Mexico’s diet, is now priced beyond the reach of Mexican peasants. Corn as fuel brings Mexican farmers a better price than corn as food.

Growing domestically produced renewable energy sources -- fuel – offers a variety of economic benefits. These include value added to the feedstock (oilseeds or animal fats), an increased number of manufacturing and agricultural jobs, increasing tax bases from plant / farm operations, and investments in physical plant / equipment. On top of this there is interesting evidence of improving air quality and greenhouse gas mitigation.

The crop which we should use for farming fuel is hemp -- an industrial crop that has been a friend of man for over 10,000 years. Hemp stems are 80% hurds [pulp by-product] and those hurds are 77% cellulose. Cellulose is the raw material we are after. Depending on which U.S. agricultural report is correct, an acre of full grown hemp can provide 4, 50 or even 100 times the cellulose found in cornstalks, kenaf, or sugar cane, our planets’ next highest annual cellulose plants. Hemp can produce 10 times more methanol than corn and hemp is not a food crop.

Hemp is unmatched in its’ potential as a biomass fuel source.

While estimates vary on the high end it is predicted that the hemp plant can produce 10 tons of biomass fuel, per acre, in a four month growing season. In some parts of our country two crops a year are probable, three possible. It has been calculated that if 6% of the continental U.S. landmass were being farmed with biomass crops we would need no foreign oil.

Hemp was legal and encouraged for the first 162 years of our nations’ history. The Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 removed hemp as a competitor to the emerging market for petroleum based products, synthetic fibers and plastics. It’s time to revisit that decision.

When you think Indonesia and marijuana, you probably remember the controversial cases where drug traffickers received death penalties for smuggling pot. That's what these guys wanna change.

In May Indonesia will be descended upon by a protest for the legalization of marijuana. Like many other Asian countries, Indonesia has an especially tough relationship with marijuana. Marijuana related offences carry very tough penalties, as they are viewed as especially serious crimes.

This year a group called the DLG, took the momentum they received from being a facebook phenomenon and organized a pro-marijuana march in May.

"It all started when a group of cannabis enthusiasts decided to create a group on Facebook called Dukung Legalisasi Ganja (DLG; Support Cannabis Legalization) in the early months of 2008. By 2011, the group had grown to 42,000 followers before being banned by an "unknown party" later that same year. With that many followers, it was unmistakable that DLG had touched upon an issue close to the hearts of many Indonesians." - TokeoftheTown

Jackpot is book detailing the lives of prominent drug smugglers Les Riley and Barry Foy and their friends. The book is named after the case that eventually brought down their fantasy life of cocaine, greed, sex and more pot than even they could imagine.

Jackpot is great tale of "deviance" in society. The two friends and drug smugglers, by living outside of the system, made themselves targets for elimination. They pushed back as long as they could, but to stay one step ahead you always have to be running, and it's not that easy.

Even though marijuana is by far the biggest drug in this tale, it's not the only one. There's some dealing with cocaine, and how the guys had struggle to save themselves from their addiction to it.

"In 2005, journalist Jason Ryan met a woman who hadn’t seen her father in more than 20 years. He was, she confided, a fugitive and one of the last of the infamous “gentlemen smugglers.”...

The encounter stayed with Ryan. Over the next year, his curiosity about Operation Jackpot grew, and he conducted preliminary interviews with men involved on both sides of the law."

This is a gritty tale. The highs are high and the lows are really low. The only thing that is constant is the battle. It's a full tale, with every bit of action, from guns to prison escapes.

It's a book worth checking out for it's well told crime, pot, and historical content.

7 Ways To Have Fun On Psychedelics

Music: Listen to it, play it, whatever. Music is great when you're high on anything. Make sure to listen to music that you like and that won't put you in a bad or agitated mood. Try going to a show or concert. If you play music, you're in for a whole new experience. Try it all.

Make a Plan: If you have a plan before you start your trip you're less likely to end up confused and disoriented. It's good to have an idea of things you want to do. Like painting, playing video games, maybe even cleaning. The more productive you are, the better you'll feel. If you're new to psychedelics pick simple tasks, because it's easy to forget how to do complicated things. And make sure you have everything ready to go before hand. It's not easy look around for stuff when your sense of space/time is disrupted.

Think Happy Thoughts: Staying positive is key. Don't let yourself go to "that place". You all know what I'm talking about. No sad thoughts, no thinking about past regrets, or any of that bullshit. And remember you are winning, people love you, and there's always someone uglier than you are. Have fun.

Hang Out With Friends: This is the number one rule of humans in general. We suck at being alone. Make sure you're surrounded by a cool group of people who love and respect you. If you remember this nugget of golden truth you'll have nothing to worry about.

Lie Down Outside: If you ever feel like everything is getting out of control, walk outside, lie down, and stare up at the sky. You might think you have problems or you might just think you've tripped yourself retarded, but when you're looking into the vastness of the universe, bad thoughts slowly melt away.

Cleanliness is Next to Godliness: It's a lot easier to stay in a good trip if everything around you is clean and organized. If you're going to be tripping in your home. Before you start, take a shower and tidy up. A little goes a long way.

Talk: Your brain is going to be firing on all cylinders, the best way not to get overwhelmed is to talk to your friends. Talking to other people who are tripping with you is a lot of fun. Though you might find yourself spilling some secrets.

How Do We Take The Next Step Towards A Pot Tolerant Future

Just something for everyone to think about from BakedLife.com...

Right now America is in it's infancy when it comes to it's ability to handle it's relationship with marijuana. This isn't just about the lawmakers, or even paranoid parents, this is an entire country. Stoners, and pot-haters a like are so new to the game of pot as "a regular thing" that they don't know how to move forward.

Many pot enthusiasts have spent years having their lifestyle judged, and have retreated into an all-pot all the time persona as a way of protecting themselves. These days if you check out anything related to marijuana and stoners it's hard to see anything but stereotypes. There are dating sites just for stoners, and social networking sites that work a little too hard at separating stoners from society.

There's nothing wrong with celebrating cannabis culture, and the benefits of marijuana. The problem comes when we start to think that being a stoner means being separate from being a human, and somehow makes us irrevocably different.

It's the same situation across the isle. Those who argue against pot also fall into repetitive stereotypes, often using illogical and fact-less arguments. They know so little about pot that when they hear what enormous phenomena it is, their minds turn that ignorance into fear.

Those who are concerned about the effects of marijuana on our society are so blindly against it that they are doing more harm than good. By trying to eliminate marijuana from society they've harmed peaceful citizens and neglected addicts who need help as well as patients who could use it as a cure.

So how do we keep from going overboard with marijuana. How do we keep from turning it into a cliche. How do we remove the taboo. By focusing on the facts and moving forward with an open mind, that understands the responsibility of completing this task properly.

Fubar: Balls to the Wall is a sequel that continues following the story of two best freinds. Terry and Dean have been best buds since they were young, and their friendship has taken them on a wild inebriated ride. Imagine living a life where the number one goal is to stay fucked up.

Fubar starts with a celebration of Dean's remaining testicle, at the end of which dean is gifted a trunk full of beers. After one final party in their house before they're evicted, Dean and Terry leave everything behind in a frenzy of LSD, drunkenness, and flames.

It's a wild film, that's sure to gain a dedicated following. There's a lot of wisdom hidden in the layers of this film's ridiculous plot line. It goes to show, no matter how fucked up life get's you're always one realization away from everything looking a lot better.

This is like Dumb & Dumber for stoners and partiers. If that reference is to old just imagine watching the Hangover, if you got to watch as they went on their wild alcohol and drug fueled rampage.
