photo from drgrowonline.comThis year at the end of February thousands of pot lovers and hemp enthusiasts gathered together in Spain's capitol for Spannibas 2011.
Spannibas is one of many cannabis conventions held each year. One of Barcelona's huge convention centers was filled with almost two hundred Cannabis merchant and vendor booths.
California likes to think of itself as on the forefront of the cannabis movement. Without a doubt they are the farthest forward, but their are many battles being fought in places all around the world. Spannabis started 8 years ago, and has struggled against the "pot taboo" for years to get to this point.
The event had awesome live DJ's and an enormous enough variety of paraphernalia to make your brain explode. Spain like many European countries has always been fairly lax towards the use of marijuana. In some areas it's not uncommon to see people smoking out and about in the streets or in cafes.
The convention wasn't really for Americans. Their press list was filled with countries from every content, but somehow the U.S. didn't make the cut. That could have something to do with America's ridiculous hemp policy. Most of the countries around the world recognize the huge benefits of hemp.
There are ways to use hemp to make, fuel, plastics, textiles, paper, and many more things. It would even be cheaper to use hemp, and because hemp is so easy to grow it would be an easily renewable resource. Hemp could stop the possibility of global warming. No wonder there's a convention dedicated to it.
It's likely that Spannibas will be back next year. If you're planning to head to Europe next February definitely meet up with Baked Life at Spannibas 2012. We wouldn't miss it for the world.
