Marc Emery - Photo Collection

Marc Emery, the "Prince of Pot", became a political prisoner of the United States of America when he pleaded guilty to charges in September, 2009. As a marijuana activist, politician, and Cannabis Culture founder, he fought against the blatant ignorance of drug laws. He is currently in custody and waiting to extradited to the U.S. to be jailed. The 52 year old leaves behind loves ones and a legacy of bravery.

All of this because America is acting to slowly to change laws that jail millions of innocent citizens and even patients. Marijuana is not illegal because it is dangerous, it is illegal because it suits the preferences and wallets of some of the richest Americans, and we as it's citizens constantly allow our voices to be drowned by the millions of dollars those individuals throw at the politicians we elect.

Mariujana Tea - Cannabis Kitchen

Making marijuana tea seems like the most obvious thing in the world. It's a plant so why not just set a pot to boil and get high. The problem is, the active ingredients in marijuana, the ones that get you high, don't release well in water. You could brew a whole gram in a cup and there wouldn't be any real affect. THC releases and bonds much much better with fats, that's why edibles are made with marijuana butter or oil.

Making tea with butter and/or oil sounds gross, and it often is. Fortunately there's a great alternative, milk. Milk has the fats necessary to extract the THC from marijuana and it tastes great with tea. What's great about the recipe we have is that you can use any kind of nut milk as a substitute, because they also contain fats. This is a great recipe for stoners and vegan stoners :)

Ingredients:

1 gram of finely ground marijuana or hash (adjust for potency)
1 cup of milk (or nut milk i.e. almond milk)
2 cups of water
Your choice of tea

Preparation:

Combine the milk and marijuana in small saucepan.
Bring to a boil. Lower heat. Simmer for 15 minutes.
Attempt to reduce to 3/4 cups.
Strain milk, through cheesecloth or strainer.

Bring the water to a boil.
Add milk (quantity depends on taste and potency).
And Brew your choice of tea.

Flavor and Enjoy!!

Marijuana Tea is a lovely treat and great for parties, but if your just looking to get really baked, it might be better to just smoke a bowl, or make brownies.

Nearly Standing Stoner - Too Many Hits

The argument against marijuana for recreational use is broad. One of the speaking points is how much stronger marijuana is today than it used to be. In California especially growers have developed super strains that are far more reliable and far more potent. Comparing today's weed with it's ancestor is like comparing snapping turtles to Ninja Turtles. Both are formidable, but the latter can really fuck you up.

Getting stoned these days can be a far lengthier and more wild adventure than it used to be. Modern buds have a much higher THC content, making the highs heavier. With weed this strong do we really need to smoke as much?

Every time one of those new extra potent strains comes out, it holds the much hailed potential to get you more baked than whatever you bought last week. After a while you might want and should want to ask, "Then why do I still smoke as much".

Every thing in moderation, even your weed. Stronger weed isn't the only reason to keep an eye on how much you smoke. Stoners have a tendency to take hit after hit, whether they're tokin' alone or in a group session. If you take a look at your smoking habits you may notice that sometimes you're getting, dare I say it, "too high".

Like everything in life there is a middle way with marijuana use. There's no need to get "really faded" every time you smoke. Learn the joy of snappers. Experience the full range and degrees of "stoned", and the learn to appreciate the difference. Analyzing your personal habits is a New Year's pastime. So this year strive to learn that even though over indulgence isn't the same thing as addiction, it's still a sneaky way of stealing from yourself.

That said, Happy Tokin' in the New Decade.
