Interview with Matt Moody - Mary Jane's Relaxing Soda

Baked Life got a chance to ask Matt Moody, CEO of about his new invention the "anti-energy drink". We also got some samples of his soda, mmmm tasty and mellow.

1. How did you choose your name?

I chose the name because when I gave the original samples (they were very strong) to friends, the response was that it made them feel as though they had smoked.

2. What's your stance on Proposition 19?

I think marijuana should absolutely be legal. There is just no reasonable explanation for it to be restricted. I've read many of the medical studies and anyone that argues against it has no leg to stand on. I also think its a no-brainer for Californias financial woes. Certainly not a 'fix-all' but it will undoubtedly bring in some major tax dollars. (Although, knowing the government, they are sure to bungle this up in some fashion).

3. Why'd you start making drinks?

I started making the soda as an alternative to alcohol. I thought with all of the stress that comes and goes throughout the day, there has to be something you could consume that would give you a calming feeling during the day, without the side-effects of alcohol. If you have a meeting or a date or something where you need to relax, its probably not a good idea to go in reeking of booze.

4. What is something cool we should know about Relaxing Soda

I think the coolest thing about the product is that it really is an ancient beverage with a modern twist. Kava drinks have been consumed for thousands of years. Just not in soda form.

5. Do you like your tea better or the soda

I'm more of a tea drinker myself, but there's something unique about the soda that keeps bringing me back. I like both, so it just depends on what urge I'm having.

6. What do you think of Baked Life (ha ha)?

Its a very cool site. I hadn't visited before your recent posting on us, but I have had a chance to look thru the site. Simple and informative, can't ask for much more. I'm a fan.

7. Is there anything else we should know?

That we have a new natural, diet version coming out and its a new flavor. Tastes fantastic. Really masks the bitter flavor of the Kava. Not sure when it will hit shelves, but the development of it is completed.
